Unless you're in a country that does not respect international conventions, copyright is created by operation of law (automatically) the moment the words are fixed in a medium from which they can be retrieved. Registration of the copyright is different, and requires affirmative action by the rights holder or their representative.

im not sure but from what i hear anything posted on a website is published so therefore copywritten

Uploading/posting the blog counts as publication (or being "fixed in a tangible medium" for US laws).
Hmm, I know original visual artwork is immediately copyrighted. Some phrases must be trademarked. This may fall under the latter. Check the government's website. It's complicated.
