Someone say's my dog bit thier kid!?

I have an old rott-mix that I adopted in New York. Last week while I was in the shower the cops came to my door, but I didn’t hear them. I went to the door and they weren’t there looked around and saw my dog in the basement at the bottom of the steps, so I blew it off. Then later my neighbor comes over and tells me the cops came over to say your dog bit a kid down the street and I told them that I never saw your dog outside. Three days later the cops come over give me a ticket for no leash and say my neighbor changed her story and saw the dog outside, but my dog wasn’t…she was inside with me. I found out that kid was playing outside in her front yard by herself and know body saw what happened, only that the kid said it was a big black dog. Well, there are two other big black dogs in my area and I know it wasn’t mine, because she was inside. What should I do? I don’t want to lose everything over lies!

Answers:
If the kid was bitten then photograph the bite marks, and take your dog to a Vet and see if the marks line up with your dog's mouth. If not, then get the Vet to sign a statement. Yes it will co$t you for the vet, but a LOT less than if you are sued.

Ignore it.
You need to sue the parents of the kid for creating the problem.
Set up a court date, the story has already changed once form a bite wound to no lease, you can already proof they are lying sinc ethey lied once. Plus they have to show up to court I say screw em for lying in the first place.
If their wasn't a witness, go to court and challenge the ticket. They can't just say it was your dog and euthanise it.
Look to see if you can contest the ticket. You might also want to seek legal advice. You might check to see if there is a lawyer referral system where you live. You can seek legal advice through these organizations for a small fee of around $30.
First of all, do not "ignore it" like the first person said, that will just get you in more trouble. Legal problems never just "go away" if ignored. What I would do is actually call the local police and find out what is really going on. You have nothing to hide, so say you're calling to find out what happened and if you are being charged with anything. If you're not being charged with anything, then it's ok. If you are being charged, fight the charges. You may even want to get a lawyer's help.
