Can I take legal action against someone who's been saying lot's of lies about me at work?

This person is been saying that I have an affair with someone else at work, and it's been going on for a while, I talked to my supervisor about it but he is just not doing much, I'm tired and stressed out because of this, so can I sue this person for falsely accusing me of this and other things?
Thanks

Yes, you can. You need proof, though, or witnesses.

Good luck!

it is called slander and if u can prove it u can file a civil suit.
Yes you can. First you should file a report with your company. Go higher up than your supervisor. Things like this are supposed to be taken seriously.
Yes... slander or defemation of character. You must rpove it however. Depending on what state you live in, recording them whithout their knowledge can be illegal. Or you can get witnesses.
actually you can. people have been fired for such things in government positions. there have been precedents set in these cases. you can do a yahoo news search on gossip at work and find the cases easily. it was a major deal involving a mayor and his support staff i think. contact an attorney.
Anyone can sue just about anyone else. Usually $180 to get papers set up...however PROVING is another thing. If everyone knows already, you COULD confront the offender in front of the biggest crowd available...very embarrassing to do.

You could also offer to meet them for a fight at the local gym...
You would probably have better luck with a sexual harassment claim or a hostile workplace environment claim than slander. We just had the same situation where I work. I am the supervisor. I met with H.R. and we proceeded with a separate meeting with the individual parties involved. So far the problem has stopped and things are good.
A lot say you can, I'm not sure but know it would be costly to hire an attorney and very hard to prove in a court!
Good luck
Slander is very difficult to prove damages on. Has it cost you money? If not, what is the loss? In the 1980's Rev. Jerry Falwell tried to sue Hustler magazine over a "fake" interview that was published in the magazine. The article supposedly was the Rev. talking about how him and his mom used to get drunk and have sex and so on. Falwell lost the suit because he suffered no monetary damages from it, and the story was so unbelievable anyway.

Pursue things with your company. Harassment in the work place on the other hand is a big issue. If you file a complaint and it continues, call a lawyer but be prepared to collect unemployment until the case is settled.
Yes you can. However, you have to ask yourself some questions. Firstly, can you prove it? The next question is: to what degree have you been slandered? Saying someone is fat isn't anything, but saying someone is a rapist, thief or drug dealer is another. This would be a civil, not criminal complaint ... so, you'd have to be looking for monetary damages. The next question would be: does the accused have any money to compensate you with if you win your case against them? The last question is: is it worth the hassles? If you're strong and confident enough to know this person is making up lies about you ... most people will know it is not true.
Do you have witnesses that you back your claims?

Otherwise it will be rendered as here-say in a court of law.

If you can record it and/or have witnesses you will do OK.

You co-workers, supervisor, and management are possibly trying to get rid of you, so start looking for a job elsewhere and never return.

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!

Leave with a handshake EVEN if you dislike your boss and co-workers.

My friend did not follow this, BUT I will pray for him.
