Do you think it will be ethical to call in my supervisees on Friday to let them go?
Leadership are diminishing jobs at a rapid pace and I was informed to have certain individuals under me removed by Friday. Do you think it is ethical?
Answers:
Probably not. But here are a couple nicer ways to say "Your fired" to that special someone:
"Oh, the week is over... and so are you!"
"You've been working hard. Do you want to take a break? As in, forever?"
"Do you have any plans this weekend?"
Them: "Yeah"
"I hope they're really long ones"
Have you been working with HR on their paper work. Most companies set up a program to help people with finding another job, writing a resume, or give them guidance on filing for unemployment. No it's not ethical BUT, from personal experience, do not tell them ahead of time. You will kick yourself if you do.
I don't have any info in your question to show that it's unethical. There might be too little detail.
If it's just cut-backs, it is happening everywhere. It is unfortunate, but as the boss it is your job to let them go. If these are good solid employees who have done a great job, you may want to ask your HR department to draft a letter of recommendation for you to give to them when you do as long as your company is okay with that.
Ethical or not you were tasked to do something by Friday and you have to or it will be your job. Personally, I am in the Military so my view of ethics is a little off kilter, I know that the job has to be accomplished and come hell or high water I'm gonna do it. I don't always like it but I have to do it.
Wish I could help more. Do what you have to and don't take it to heart.
Well that IS how business can work. Is the company not able to give them a 2 week notice? Some would probably go ahead and quit, and others stay until the end.
I have seen it done that way. The only thing is if their is opportunity for any type of sabotage, then it has to be a quick firing.
In a lot of states it is 'at will' adn the employer can terminate for no reason.
no its not but its you or them and they will probably let you go soon to. taking a stand may get you fired but it sure is good for self esteem. tell them to do it themselves the *****'s
what the heck is a 'supervisee' for christ's sake?
perhaps you mean 'employee'?
if your supervisor told you to fire some people ,then do it,
they're the boss, right?it's not your place to argue.
i'm guessing that the ones to be fired are your friends and that is a tough position to be placed in for sure.
this might be a test of YOUR leadership,so ask why, even if
you think you know already, make certain that dismissal
is justified.like i said, the test may be yours.
