Employer harassing.?

I work in a grocery store as a cashier. My manager recently started dating one of the other cashiers. Him and the other cashier have all of a sudden turned on another cashier and I. I have been employed with the company for 5 years and have and ok record. As in no major complaints or anything. The manager is now taking a personnal interest in who the other cashier and I are talking to and what we are doing. It was never an issue until he started dating this woman. She is making comments like "the **** is going to hit the fan" and heads are going to roll. We can't go to the owner of the store because he thinks that the manager walks on water and could never do any wrong. Does anyone know what else we could do. The manager won't even let us talk to each other. Or certain other employees while we are on company time. HELP!!

If you work in one of the major chains, you can file a grievance with your union rep.

If you work in a small store and there is no union... then document everything. It is usually unethical for management to "date" their subordinates... for the very reason you are stating. But write down all that happens.. even how it makes you feel (intimidated, scared, etc.). if you DO get fired, you can take that to the employment office where you are going to file a claim for unemployment payments. Your documentation can show that you were unfairly treated.

It is gets really harrassing or makes it a hardship to work there, you can find a lawyer that will help you make the next move.

Good luck - company politics are never pretty when sex gets involved. Maybe the other cashier is just strutting her new-found power... or maybe you'll have to go over the head of the manager and write a formal letter of complaint... regardless of the friendship between the owner and manager, a formal letter shows that you are taking your job seriously and refuse to be intimidated.

But don't quit... hang in there. Know that you are documenting everything - and if you do get fired, you can retaliate legally.

Oh jeez. The main reason everyone quits their jobs is because of the people and situations like this. Unless you want to go through EEOC and file a complaint, the best thing would be to find a job elsewhere and star over in a more positive environment. You seriously don't want to keep yourself in an unhealthy atmosphere like this because it will affect you for the rest of your life because you'll have flashbacks. Just keep telling yourself that you don't have to put up with it and leave to go elsewhere. Good luck.
Send an anonymous letter to the owner and point out the relationship and how inappropriate it is for him to allow a manager to date a person he supervises.
I think you should go to the store manager anyway. Regardless of the "walking on water" or other miracles this guy is capable of, it won't matter if he's dating an employee. That opens the store up to a whole host of sexual harassment lawsuits -- there have even been lawsuits where people like you sued for how differently they were treated when the boss started dating one of their co-workers, and they won!

Take it to the store manager, and then file a complaint with the labor department in your county or state.
Document everything you think is discriminatory, Times, dates, actions taken, If you think you have been discriminated against talk to an attorney.
