How much jail time can you get if you steal 2,600 from your job and you have never been in trouble?

Answers:
Good News:
If you plead guilty, show remorse to the judge and return the money that you stole to the victim. You might might not have to go to jail and DA might drop it to misdemeanor according to LAPD detective I talked to.

Bad News:
You might have to do at least 100 hour of community service. Plus, on you record i will show that you've been arrested for stealing which will make it harder to you to get employment.

My best advice to you is not to steal from the first place.

Thats not a suspicious question at all..probably a lot...just safe to assume that...
depends on who your lawyer is and if the judge is in a good mood that day. both are variables . That is quite a bit of money. That doesn't sound like you took a couple pens home. I would not admit to it / stop writing about it in yahoo and speak to an attorney.
more than you want to do!
Best advice: don't steal. It can not only get you locked up but hurt future job opportunities.
That is considered grand theft and you could look at 20 years or so if convicted.
Your question might make people think you have done something. However, i will not assume so but just wanted to express you should know that.

Any jail time is bad. Depending on where you are, you could be charged with a felony which will take away certain civil rights you have for the rest of your life. Sentences also vary from state to state, so you could get a lot of time in jail.as in years. Definately not worth 2,000 dollars.

And last thing...just because one does not have priors, it does not mean you will get less time. Sometimes, one can get the short end of the stick even if innocent.

In any case, you may want to contact an attorney in your area in regards to this as they will be familiar with your local laws.
Embezzlement is a felony that can be punished with 10 years in prison if more than $500 is taken. This includes money taken over time if it is part of a common scheme. The fact that someone never takes more than $500 in one theft does not make them immune from a felony charge. It’s hard to send anyone to prison for a first offense. typical sentence will include a conviction of “Grand Theft” with a three-year prison sentence, which is suspended. They are placed on parole and may spend 120-180 days in jail, plus an order to repay all proven losses. If money is paid, the person will most likely not be sent to prison. If there is no restitution, then the judge can revoke parole and order prison time.
you may be sent to Antarctica
i give up
How much time you get for stealing $2600 depends on where you were when you took it, whether you have any of it to give back, and the determination or confession that the theft was an intentional crime.

Forgetting to put back $2600 you have been carrying around for business is radically different from sneaking in and taking it off somebody else's desk. Returning part of the stolen proceeds can reduce the amount left, to be charged with, below the felony level, changing a minimum year's sentence into a maximum year's sentence. If the prosecutor wishes to bargain, a well-informed defense lawyer can get you the "usual" deal, maybe a guilty plea, probation, and no prison time. If you can afford bail, you will spend little or no time in jail either.

Factors that affect the answer: where this happened, what the customary charges are under these circumstances there, and what is the customary punishment there for these charges. Find a good lawyer and ask them.
Dude, throw yourself to the mercy of the court!
