My mate unfortunately got bleach splatted all over her clothes due to buying bleach that was not closed?

properly at the supermarkert, does she have a claim to cover the expense of her clothing?

Answers:
As everybody knows bleach bottle caps are vented. This is to release the chlorine gas which bleach releases when it gets warm. Otherwise the bottle might build up pressure and explode, splattering bleach all around.
Did she read the warning to this end on the bottle - 'warning toavoid spillage always transport and store upright' ?

We were taught this at school 20+ years ago.

tye-die, you go for it Hippie!!
most definitely.
possibly the bleach company, but the supermarket really has little to do with it.
Please don't waste the court's time with this.

It's part of life. What ruins life for the rest of us is bogus lawsuits clogging the court system, raising the cost of consumer goods, and making slimy lawyers rich.

Just tell her to be more careful in the future around bleach.
Yes I would say so.
Yes. This happened to me last year. Black shoe polish ( the liquid type) Leaked out of the tube while I was unpacking my shopping at home.
It went down the front of my mac. Cleaning failed to get the marks off.
The supermarket (Sainsburys) did not ask for invoices, just reimbursed me for having to buy a new mac.

Note to askthepizzaguy. There's no need to involve the law. Just explain to the supermarket what happened.
She can certainly try to get satisfaction, but they may well wriggle out of responsibility by demanding to see invoices for her clothing to check the value (Sainsbury's did that to me) and unless the damage was suffered at the checkout, it is unlikely that she will be able to establish cause and effect.
Yeesh... This is why I bag cleaning chemicals for people whether they ask me to or not...

I've never heard of anyone successfully filing a claim against the store itself for a faulty cap on something like bleach. I work at Wal-Mart as a cashier, and nothing like this has ever happened. I think that it would be possible for you to take action against the company that makes the bleach though if she got hurt from it, but I'm not too sure about it if all it did was bleach her clothes...
if this happened in the shop, then yes you could have a claim, but if it happened outside, or at home then it would be very hard to prove, worth a try i suppose, but not holding out much hope, sorry,
just after something like that happens she should have called the manager over (manager of the grocery store) and showed him what happened (sometimes it's on tape from the camera, sometimes every thirty day something that happened would be taped over). And that manager would ask her to come back with that clothing so he could have it for insurance purposes of his store when he files his form for insurance reimbursement. Your mate would have to present a copy of the bill of the cost of the clothes (i.e. when she bought it, where and the cost) if it is expensive clothing and she wants to get back its worth. Since the grocery stores do have insurance like that and it's under say $1000 then they will usually just take your mate's information and have her sign a form and they will reimburse her.
Yes , but proving will be another matter

If it happened in store , then there should not be a problem

I worked in a shop , the same thing happened , the shop paid for a new top
From previous experience.approach the manager at the supermarket who will normally try to resolve the issue (as in cash)
My ex had a similar experience with bleach bought from my local supermarket. When she reported it to them they checked their shelf stock and found that almost every bottle's safety cap had been undone and left sitting "unclicked" on the bottles. The SM manager reported it to the police as she was concerned that someone may have been intentionally trying to cause children to be poisoned.

Even though the spillage wasn't their fault, the SM paid to replace Herself's ruined clothes.

"Life's a bleach, and then you dye."
yes you can it happened to my partner he got oil down the front of his coat in a shop because when he pick it up the seal was broken and it spilt all down the front of his jacket i complained to the manager then i sent an email to the company later i received the amount the coat was
