What do you think about CCTV? Do you feel safe or do you think it is a liberty impairment?
(sorry for my english, but I really need to practice)
I am really surprise that each time the police catch a robber or killer or terorrist. The news always say, thanksfully there was CCTV and without we will not be able to arrest them. Does it really true? or is it not somthing they say for: 1-increase the number of CCTV and 2- people will feel safe when there is CCTV (which could induce a drop of policeman).
On the other hand, luckly for us, we are in a democratic country. However, if the thingh change (who know) the state can really controp the people. For exemple, could you imagine if there was CCTV in France during the WW II. Or, if ok everybody with a particular type should be arrest.Thta will be the end of our liberty.
In France, there are really fiew camera, however we prevent (until now) all the terorrist attacks. However, as scotland were attack few weeks ago, (and CCTV did a "great job") french media started to say all the good of the camera...
And now they start

its only used to help the authorities, not you! its is for tracking! im just waiting for the barcode on my arm!
we need to watch folk like yourself
always tapping away on your keyboard
looking at a rectangle box
switch on more i say!
it is true and cameras are going everwhere, those hidden ones even on the neck ties or toes of shoes not counting stores even apartments parking lots up and down your home street.
It doesn't stop young people throwing stones at the buses in our area. There's a massive CCTV spot near me and yet crime still goes on..tyres being slashed and unregistered cars.
It's just an excuse to monitor us all.
CCTV has never stopped a terrorist attack.
The UK is the most watched country in the EU, but CCTV stopped nothing, nor incidentally would ID cards have helped on these occasions.
CCTV helps after the event and saves the government money on police resources, that's about it!
Imagine if we were invaded, how would be able to protect ourselves as our every move could be centrally monitored.
More cameras needed,,,,,
If you're not doing anything wrong there is nothing to worry about!
I think CCTV is a good thing.
Attacks still happen regardless of CCTV
If they prevent crime why was there a recent news article about Britain citys being no go areas after dark?
Also if France accepts them be prepared for the next generation of these things some parts of the UK has now, not only do they watch you they also listen to you and can speak to you, ordering you do not do something.
My advice to you in France is to give them the same treatment you did with the speed cameras, well done on that one!
*Yes certainly.....

"Those who lightly give up their liberties in the name of safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Benjamin Franklin
The CCTV pictures they show on TV News and Crimewatch are so bad they make my poor efforts with a camcorder look like Hollywood productions.
Most people who are up to no good are unrecognisable when seen on them.
They don't bother me. When they do I'll wear a hijab or a Lone Ranger mask.
your fears are justified, cameras everywhere and we are controled by the people you mentioned in w.w.2. and they refuse to give us a vote. you were wronge about us being a democracy, you see our security forces as watching out for terrorist, but you should also see them as europes occupying forces.
We are the most watched nation in Europe, and in one street in London there are 395 cctv's, what justification is there for this type of survelliance. The powers that be claim its for our own protection, but that's baloney, what did we do before cctv, we had policemen on the beat, patrolling and keeping an eye on what was going on, not sitting behind a camera, looking to see who has parked their car in the wrong space.
It hasn't stopped the terrorists from placing bombs on our street and murdering hundreds of people. They have caught them after the fact not before they committed the crime.
I have heard the argument that if you have nothing to hide why worry, but i don't think they are right and are an infringemment of our basic civil liberties.
It's an impairment of liberty and it already feels like a "Big Brother" society . What next ? Cameras in the living room ?
Privacy is gone - What we need is to trust the judicial system which ensures that only those that need to know, do not disclose your information to unauthorised persons or organisations. On a similar theme think of all those millions of mobile cameras that are also available - its the invasion from within that we as moral strangers need to be protected from - Constant Vigilance !
I agree CCTV's are excellent, but i dont think they should be everywhere because we need our freedom too. CCTV's are excellent if they are put in the high crime areas.
Were the fourth richest nation in the world, live in a so-called democracy but our citizens are spied upon more than any of the worlds worst dictatorships.
Its total crap that they are there for our own protection. They are there simply for the Big Brother state to snoop on us.
Where are the police on our streets which would give us real protection?
I welcome the 'intrusion' because I am not a criminal nor am I paranoid about the Authorities who monitor the cameras. How interesting it would be if a bank robbery took place, I was stopped wearing very similar clothes to one of the robbers but the CCTV showed me clearly walking past the bank and the robbers leaving either in front or after me. Democracy doesn't come into it but Public Safety does.
