Is this legal?

For a school to force a manditory dress code [polos, tucked in, collared shirts, no hoodies, no sweatshirts, no teeshirts, and only jeans and khaki style pants..] and FORCE US TO PAY FOR IT. Some of us cant afford buying brand new wardrobes of only collared shirts, and jeans.. I dont think it is right and I hate it. Where are my rights of individuality?!

Answers:
That's legal.

I don't think any school with a dress code actually provides the clothes to the students for free. They have to be purchased.

Your rights of individuality are at a different school than the one you are attending, apparently.

.

Is your school private? If it is, then they are allowed to tell you what to wear.
private school?.. yes.. public school.. depends on school regulation..u don't have to buy theirs, but its required and they are allow to kick u out of school for not dressing
Yeah schools can do that but if you cant afford it than id go to a different school
I WENT TO SCHOOL 12 YEARS IN A UNIFORM-
DON'T EVEN GO THERE
This is happening across the country, so I'm pretty sure it's legal. Check with your school to see if they have financial assistance for the mandatory dress code. Also, check at places like Goodwill and Salvation Army for inexpensive clothing, or wash your clothes mid-week.
Your rights of individuality are waiting for you once you reach the age of majority and can quit school and go get a job someplace.

Be aware that most of the jobs that you can get that way are going to require you to wear uniforms. Dorky polyester uniforms.

If your biggest problem in life is that someone is making you wear a polo shirt, you probably need to grow up. A lot.
This one got to me. For Pete's sake change schools. I can tell from your tone, your ICON and the overtones that your use to getting your way or crying foul and using either race, or my poor financial situation to justify blaming the world for your dilema. Get a life, wear the clothes, or go elswhere. Bet the close you want to wear cost far more than those required (just a hunch!)
Before admission, you were made known of the school dress code. There are agencies available through the school that can assist with the cost of the required dress. Contact the school for that information. Only other alternative, is to seek out a different school.
they can force you to wear them.try second hand stores and consignments shops to get what you need...
Yes. There are plenty of other schools in NJ and as a child guess what?.The govt. thinks your rights are ****. It's summer...you have time to register at a new school
Dress codes are perfectly legal.

Go to the good will, I am sure you can afford a couple $2 collared shirts,
It wasn't that long ago that most public schools had uniforms. You can get most of these items at thrift stores if you really look.

Ask your parents I am sure they had to wear jumpers or suits when they were in elementary and their parents had to pay or make them.
Without getting too detailed, you do have an individual right to express yourself related to your 1st/14th amendment right to free speech. The right to wear certain clothing does not fall into the category of constitutionally protected speech/expression as it relates to school dress codes. The courts will generally defer to the discretion of school administrators on these types of issues.
Yes, it is legal for any school public or private to require and enforce a dress code. These requirements are supported by state or local regulations and the decisions of the local school board.

Your rights of individuality end when you step onto the school campus.

Dress codes have been shown to eliminate a lot of social problems in school caused by various social economic classes bullying each other because of choice or availability of wardrobe.

I have an idea that your everyday wardrobe of choice is at least as expensive as the required items; and could well be a lot more, and you are just desperate to get your own way.

You have to deal with it or find another school to attend.
Yes, it's legal.

As various people have explained the other times you've posted this question.

A dress code based on general standards for clothing quality and lack of distraction are valid. Mandating particular colors, or public school uniforms, are generally not valid.
