Statutory holiday entitlement at work in the uk !?
Does the new law which comes into force in october for holidays include bank holidays ? (i think it goes up to 24 days a year )
Answers:
new EU rules mean that bank holidays can't be counted as part of the 20 day min holiday. it will go upto 24 days in October then 28 April 2009, but that will still be less than other EU countries
yes it does include bank holidays, after that you are entitled to twenty days holidays a year if full time but if part time its 16 days a year
At the moment you're entitled to 20 days holiday, INCLUDING public holidays. There are 8 public holidays per year, which means that you have the right to 12 days off on top of those. Most people get more than this, however some don't.
From October the amount will increase to 24, and then in 2009 it will increase to 28. For the next 18 months or so however your boss can choose to just pay you off for the extra four days however rather than give you the time.
Every worker in the uk is now entitled to a minimum 4 weeks holidays NOT including Bank Holidays.
