Do you think this is right?

Ok so I ask this cause I need some answers…. Library books I had some out forgot to return they are a month overdue I get a notice and it says they are gonna charge me 98.00 for them…. Now they clearly say on them they are 16.98 a piece can they charge me more than they are worth?? So I called and said I would bring them back cause I forgot about them and they still want me to pay 10.00 for late fees and 5.00 to restock… if that’s the case I just bought the book right?? What would you do?

Answers:
rules are rules..you broke them. Libraries are manged by citiy or county government. They add fees to help pay for the library itself. Perhaps you should learn to obey rules.

Pay the fees- otherwise you can forget ever getting another library book
Just take the books back and pay the late fees. Next time try and return them on time or take them back and check them out again. If you are late at the video store they charge you outrageous fees. I see no difference. You are charged more for being irresponsible.
the $98.00 mite be the price to replace the book if it isn't in print anymore. the $10 you gota pay or never go to the library again. but what the he*l is a $5.00 restocking fee? its a library not a store. pay the $10 and question the h*ll out of the $5.00.
If it's 10.00 and 5.00 per book, then keep them. I don't think libraries would do that, i think it would be a one time $15.00 fee, and they do have the right to do that... as long as you agreed to late fee charges when you got a membership. Talk to them about that, and ask them to show you where it says they can charge you that much, because it sounds like they're just pulling these numbers out of thin air.

If it is that much *per* book, absolutely without a doubt keep them. Stick it to the library for being jerks about it. If you keep them, you don't really lose, except a couple dollars, but the library now has to replace 4 books because of their bad policy.
Return the books asap.
Put them in the night deposit drop box.
Do not go in to return them or to talk to them... you already have.
If they contact you again ...pay up!
If they don't contact you again they may not ever call you back. They are usually under staffed and under funded.
The next time you go in (wait as long as you can to go back or go somewhere else) they may bring it to your attention again ...if so, pay up! if you want their service you have to pay for it. Another consideration is 1. Keep the books. 2. don't tell them anything. 3. Send a check to cover the book cost and fees. More than likely it will clear your account and you can keep using the libray. Paying the late fee and restocking fee is not buying the books you also have to return the books. In that case I would do it in person and get a receipt for it.
Lesson learned! Oops, 15.00 gone! I would pay the fees and take them back to the library. I think the library is an excellent resource to the public, especially since they don't charge anything unless you are late. They have electric/phone/internet/water. costs.
The $98.00 is the amount to replace the books, pay the $10.00 and the $5.00. You come out alot cheaper.
well first time I ever heard them charging you more than they are actually worth, they are not thinking clearly, I woul dsay to them look either charge me for the book and I wil keep it or charge me half of its worth and i will pay and return it...common lets be fair
The library where I work...the bill is the replacement cost of the material. When they are returned a late fee is charged...we never charge more in late fee than the book(s) are worth. Re-stocking...we don't do that. We just want our books back...bottom line. Costs too much to re-buy, re-process them, put a protective cover on it, etc. Just return them, and work out a repayment for the fee. We are very forgiving...depends on the community the library is in. Some are very strict.
ok, dont argue thme, it'll just piss em off. the restocking fee is stupid, wtf is that about? that i would argue, but once i forgot to return a book for 3 months, and they only charged me a 4 dollar late fee, and it was the only copy! oh well, sounds like that library is trying to make money, not serve the community.
Call and ask if they have a free no fine week
Some library's do
Or return them now and ask to pay a little at a time
