Shouldn't the law set a good example for us?

Instead of almost hitting me in the crosswalk while on a cell phone, thank you mr.cop!! You could of at least turned on your sirens?

Answers:
i hate people like that, they are stupid, well, all you can do is be cautious

Wow... I sure as hell hope you don't talk on your phone and drive at the same time, because that makes you a damn hypocrite as well as a troll for posting this question.

2 points.........
While you are correct that public servants (for example police officers) should set a good example, and at the very least obey the laws they enforce, your query begs the question: where was your head at the time?

Do you look both ways before walking into areas where automobile traffic is something you are likely to encounter? If so, what do you do when you see a car coming? Do you take precautions to help ensure your safety? Or do you walk heedlessly into its path?

Sure, legally you may be in the right, but it's your life. Do you care?

Many people learn in elementary school to make eye contact with drivers before proceeding into a crosswalk. As for me, I have never been hit by a vehicle while on foot for the simple reason that I make sure I am aware of my surroundings at all times.

Having said that, 'Mr. Cop' certainly should pay closer attention, but since he deserves to face a firing squad, chances are slim that he will develop that ability.

I have a certain disdain for police lately because of an incident near Las Vegas some time back where a Highway Patrol officer rear-ended another vehicle, killing one or more of the occupants, while driving exceedingly fast (Over 100 mph, if memory serves) without lights or siren, so I certainly, share your concern.

In short, situational awareness by all benefits everyone.
cops are people too.
you're not a troll!!

I have the same complaint! Hello people get off the phone!

Cell phones have caused more accidents than drunk drivers. That's pretty sad, don't you think?

Some people think it's okay if you use a headset- nooo wrong again! Your ATTENTION is still off the road.

I have a cell phone- however my life is more important than a call. If I have someone with me I'll ask them if they want to answer it for me but even then I have voicemail for a reason.

If I'm expecting a very important call then I'll pull over and take the call but I will never put my life and other drives lives at risk.

The law SHOULD set a good example. The other day I was on the highway and one went zooming by- the limit was 55 and he was doing atleast 80. No sirrens, no lights- just proving that he's a cop and think he rules the world.

However when it comes to the rules of the road I really wish people would learn what it means when an ambulance, firetruck or cop has their sirens on. IT MEANS MOVE OUT OF THE WAY. no no let me rephase that- MOVE TO THE RIGHT OF THE ROAD AND STOP UNTIL THE AMBALANCE, ETC HAS GONE PAST.
Damn straight.

Last week, I was driving to a garage sale in Mamaroneck, NY and while going through an intersection I almost collided with a cop who ran through a stop sign. Why? He was yakking on a cell phone!
aw at least your ok... ya those stupid people, everyone should obey the law! glad your ok though
