Is it illigal for a salesperson to leave a message on your phone?

I am registered in this contest and they will call you or e-mail you to tell u that u won. I have caller ID and i so if it's a number that i don't know i don't answer it. So i am wondering, if it's illigal for a salesman to leave a voice message, maybe i am missing the call that is telling me that i won.

Answers:
No, it is not illegal. Its called telemarketing.

Unless, of course, you have registered your number with the national "Do Not Call" list. Then it could possibly be illegal. Otherwise no.

If you are on the national no-call list in the U.S., and it is NOT someone that you do business with and that you have not given your name or number to voluntary, then you can report them... https://www.donotcall.gov/complain/compl...
NO it is not illegal for a sales person to leave a message, they can and they will.. However I don't see the point in giving out your number if you are not going to answer it.

The do not call registry does not extend to you willingly giving out your information for the purposes of further solicitation (which entering a contest is).
