How do I format a letter of notification?
Hi,
In my previous question I asked for advice on a legal name change. I am now told that I would have to send a letter by certified mail to my creditors informing them that I have applied for a name change. Is there any required special format for this? Should I include a copy of the petition? How can I do this so that the judge is satisfied when I go to my hearing? The coourt is not allowed to give me any advice on this and I can't afford a lawyer. Any help would be appreciated. :)

I would recommend using a standard business letter format and indicate all of the circumstances surrounding your name change including, but not limited to, why you are changing your name (even if it is just because you don't like your current name), what your original legal full name is, what your legal full name will be, and any/all nicknames or shortened forms of your name that have ever been used on any legal documentation (i.e. if you have a credit card that is Mary B. Jones, list this as well as Mary Bette Jones etc.)
I would include a copy of the petition. Make a copy of the letter and contents of each envelope -- and don't forget to sign the letter.
When you send the letters, make sure you not only send it certified, but return receipt so you have something to show the judge.
