Does anyone know the outcome of the Pitcairn abuse trials?

I was looking on the world atlas, and found a remote island called Pitcairn. I looked into it thinking it would be interesting. It has revealed a horrid case of abuse of children. I have read a few atricals about the coniviction of the men of the island, but not if they are in fact in prison for there crimes. It,s a minefield of red tape. I would just like to know if these men have been jailed. This island has a only a population of about 50 people.

Their final appeals were dismissed.

"The ruling means the men will serve a range of sentences from community service to six years in the jail they helped to build on Pitcairn."

That was Oct 2006, so they're in jail now if that was part of their sentence.

The inhabitants of Pitcairn Island are the descendants of the classic "Mutiny of the Bounty" event. Some of the descendants moved across to Norfolk Island which is slightly more hospitable, but some stayed on Pitcairn.

If I remember correctly, the litigation of these more recent sexual events was carried out by the authorities of a foreign country, because the Pitcairn inhabitants were saying that there was no law that made sex with juveniles illegal!

They were nevertheless convicted, but the case went to appeal.

I imagine one of the points of appeal might well have been about who had responsibility for this Island and its international status, and quite possibly, Britain might have had to accept it as their responsibility, either because British was the colonial power when it was first settled.

However, like you, I do wonder how that all panned out!
I expect the whole thing has been covered up by now.
