Do you think we can make a statement?
If you don't believe in global warming, you can stop reading now; this is for believers only. It's being proposed (by a 'commoner' to attact the attention of leaders worldwide to the issue of global warming.
It's being suggested that on Sept. 9th, at 9:00 pm that everyone turn off their lights and electrical appliances for 9 minutes. It's easy enough to remember; 9th month, 9th day, 9th hour for 9 minutes. Do you think we can get enough people worldwide to do this simple task in order to draw attention to the concern we have about how serious WE (the little people) take this matter?
If we can really get the word out, and get enough cooperation, this will be the biggest statement the common people of all countries have made at the same time about the same issue.what do you think? I say we go for it and spread the word..

It sounds good. I think a lot of good things could happen if people did things en masse. Like, if everyone picked up a piece of trash, or people didn't waste so much paper, water, etc.
Good thoughts but I don't know if it will happen. Like the non smoking day...I don't smoke but everyone around me does. they never even heard of it! It's going to be a long road.
A splendid idea but not likely to happen. But even if it did happen it is not going to influence those who control the distribution of electrical energy.
Neat idea. I'm writing it down to do it!
Sounds like a good place to start.
Certainly better than doing nothing at all.
You need to get this idea well and truly out there though in order to get enough publicity for it to have any sort of impact.
I'm gonna make a note of it for me and my friends and family.
Good Luck.
i say you post this every day.
i'll make a note on my calendar right now. may have a little problem with the hubby turning off the tv.
Gallant idea, but it will fail. We are to addicted. Can't give up my computer that easy.
Sorry
That is a good idea on the surface, but think of what is likely to happen to many of the power grids (especially on the east and west coast of the US) when everyone hits it at about 9:10 to power everything back up.
It might be better not to do this so that old people and invalids don't get hit with a blackout in some areas because of this demand when the lights try to go back on!
Oh this is for anybody not if you only believe in global warming. Everybody should be concerned about this. I'm not a true believer in global warming but support this effort 100%!!! You'll proabably get great response from average people but the ones who won't do it will be the celebrities who just talk and try to tell everybody else how to live. This is great and you keep spreading the word. Everybody should do more!
This is just as ludicrous and ignorant as the "Turn off the TV" week nonsense. It's illogical and I can guarantee you that 9 minutes won't make one damn bit of difference in the grand scheme of it all.
Look for other ways to promote energy conservation. This is just another round of sheep mentality on a go nowhere idea.
And by the way, thumbs me down all you want. Those of you gullible enough to believe in this nonsense need to be told about reality. Truth hurts doesn't it?
I believe that there is global warming going on, but I mean no harm, but what you suggest is just as silly as stoping using gas from certain gas stations on a certain day or not at all. It makes no sense. Plus if many people did that the surge of everyone's electricity coming back on at the same time "may" blow fuses or blow something at the electric substation. LOL, yeah that sure will make a statement.
