My friend is claiming to have been raped what should i do?

this is a friend i know over the internet. she is claiming to have been raped and it sounds like a very scary situation where it seems like there could be continued abuse. i know nothing about her except the city where she lives and her screen name. what can i do so at least im not legally liable

Answers:
It seems unusual that she would tell you that she has been raped. She could be faking it to get attention, a lot of people will do just that. But, if it is real, then take heart, if she told you then she will probably tell someone else as well, maybe someone she is closer to, and who could get her to seek help.
Is there any reason you feel you have legal liability? I can think of none. Don't worry about yourself at this point.
I'm not really even sure you should worry about her either, except to be concerned that she may be lying, that is the only thing that should scare you. Take care. ♥

If you know her only by the internet ... stay out of it. She could be one of those crazy people who make up stories to get attention or money from sympathy.
Do nothing. You know nothing about this person. If she really was raped (if she really is a "she"), tell her to call her local rape hot line. They are far better able to deal with her problem than you are.
You can't do anything other than encourage her to report it. Why are you worried about your legal liability? You have none. You should be worried about your friend.

The only way you could alert the police would be if you knew her name, which you don't. You could try calling the station and telling them what the situation is, but I doubt they could do much.
dude dont stay out of it. you need to contact the police. tell them what you know and let them decide what to do.
tell her that u were raped too.
Everything on the internet is suspect, including your question. You'd be better off to not get involved. There must be a reason that she hasn't gone to the police!
she's a friend, and the first thing you think of is your own legal liability? gosh, will you be my friend too?

YOU have no liability in a situation such as described. now, as to being shallow, well that's another thing entirely.
