What are the requirements to register as a sex offender in the state of New York?
My brother is moving to New York but he have to register as a sex offender. What are the laws as far as living in a aprtment and registering from Texas to New York. His offense is his girlfriend at the time was younger than 17.
Answers:
tell your brother to go to the office that he currently registers at every year. let them know he is moving. he will need to give them all the forwarding information and then upon arrival in new york he will have to go straight there to register in new york. every year he must register or face the penalty. as for where he can and cannot live i am sure every state has its own regulations but it is pretty universal that if the crime was commited on a minor ( 16 is a minor ) then it is written in his sentence. not near schools or in same dwelling etc. but all that is spelled out for him in the papers he was issued when convicted.
I believe you must first be convicted of committing a sex-related crime.
