I have heard that the smoking ban is not in force in the House of Commons?
I know prisoners can smoke in prison.
Answers:
The first thing that New Labour did back in 1997 was to ban smoking in the House of Commons.
Not being British I have no response.
You heard wrong.
The smoking ban is not law in the Houses of Parliament as it is Crown Property, but MPs have decided that smoking rules should be the same as if it were law.
Smoking is only allowed in designated areas on the open terrace of the House.
thats really made me quite angry now actually. Why do people like me who smoke have to go outside the pub if i want to smoke and they don't? most pubs dont even provide a shelter for their customers to stand under when its raining
The people who make the laws in this country are obviously above any laws they put on the statute books. Have you not realised this before. You surely have heard of, Do what I say not what I do.
i have heard the same - check out this site, it does not mention an exemption for the House of Commons, but i could be wrong!

Yep, you're correct. We must allow our MPs the freedom to smoke inside? Does sound barking mad to me!
At the same time they accept smoking kills second hand smokers? Very strange decision.
Nobody cares that i have lost my part time job .I used to empty ash trays at my local pub.
I'm waiting for our good English friends tae kick up a stink aboot the smoking ban! They managed tae get the Poll Tax eliminated, and I'm waiting for them tae get the smoking ban flung intae the bin!! Come on ye English!!
The smoking ban law does not apply to Palaces. Technically the House of Commons is exempt as the correct word for the building is the Palace of Westminster.
your right on both counts one rule for you and me one rule for the house and one rule for the prisoner
If it's true , it just goes to show " one rule for us , another for them "
I bet they don't pay VAT
