No. It is painful enough for those obliged to hear the sad facts in these cases to have to share the intimate details of other people's lives. It would be horrible if strangers were free to come and gawp in the public gallery. The people concerned have not committed any offences which would bring them into the public arena (and if they had, those offences would be dealt with in the criminal courts). It is right that their privacy should be respected and that the children involved should be shielded as much as possible in a situation where they are already bound to be hurt one way or another.
No. They are closed to protect the children who would otherwise be victimized by the media.
David is right it is for the protection of the children.
i think family courts should be more fair, if court orders are broken re contact with children then there should be stiff penalties. but not open.
They can't be more open, as said previously. But as a child, I had to go to the Family Court as my parents were having a custody battle. I was appauled at the stupid decision made, we were told stay so many days with one parent, so many days with another, then a fortnight with one, it was terrible.
Family court doesn't seem to do its job, the only thing it does do is protect the children from the media. If it became more open, it wouldn't even be doing that.
i think they should be privately televised and the parents given
a video or dvd, to mull over at leisure if a terrable injustice has occured then one should be able to do something, and has the evidence.
