I think my job is taking advatage of me!?
I work at a video game store. I've been working there for about 2 months now. My paychecks are supposed to come on the 5th and 20th of every month. My first paycheck came on the 5th as scheduled. My next paycheck, which was for the month of July, was supposed to be waiting for me at the store on the 20th. I stopped by and it was not there. I asked my manager why and he told me he'd talk to the owner. I talked to my manager again about two days later and he said there was a mistake at the check writing place and I'd be getting it the next week. I was running out of money now and needed to buy gas soon. I came in for my paycheck about 7-9 days later and it was still not there! But the owner was, so I talked to him personally and he told me they'd have it by Friday. I told him I was down to nickels and pennies (which was true), so he gave me $120 in cash, which seemed about right for my total paycheck. He told me that he took out for taxes, but I'm a student and I don't think

Mistakes do happen with payroll sometimes, but the fact that you had to be so persistent is definitely a problem.
Do you work for a chain, or an independent store? if it is the latter, I would look for other employment. Otherwise, see what happens with the next pay cycle.
If I were you, I'd hire a lawyer. Sounds like these jokers are scamming you.
There are labor laws in each state that require you to be paid. If not, and your employer owes you money, you get attorneys fees.
That's why you find a real good blood sucking lawyer.
Student or not you pay taxes on your check.
Still not sure on how you think your job is taking advantage of you.
It appears that there's some miscommunication at most. Stay in contact with them until they get their scheduling conflicts settled.
sounds like they pulling your chain
Nothing you can do ALL employers take advantage of there employees...
You should have a fair employment office someplace in your area. Ask your parents about it and report the abuse. Next time the boss is late with a paycheck remind him there are fair employment practices that he must abide by. However, you should be prepared to be fired, so I would first have another job lined up if that happens. As long as he thinks he can treat you that way, he will, so let him know it is not acceptable!
Ah, yeah, you do need to pay taxes, just not the higher ones that your parents pay. You will get it all or most of it back when you file your taxes.
It sounds like they want shot of you and hope you just leave on your own accord so they can weasel their way out of paying what they owe.
Keep a detailed record of the times and dates and exactly who said what and contact a lawyer who will be better able to advise you of your rights.
You also need to find a better job where professional people run the establishment and the least of your worries will be when or if you are going to be paid!
