What is a felony, is it not paying a traffic ticket? How do u know if someone has 1 on their record?

What is the definition of a felony? Where can u check to see if there is one? What types of things are generally considered felonies? Same question for a misdemeanor ?

Answers:
In many states, if you fail to appear, you will be sent a notice that you have been found guilty and that your license will be suspended on a certain date. If you pay the fine amount on the notice before the suspension date, your license will not be suspended and your case will be closed. If you fail to pay by the suspension date, your license will be suspended and you will be subject to arrest.

Failure to appear in court or to prepay your ticket results in a verdict of "Guilty in Abstentia;" meaning that you were found guilty by lack of your presence because you failed to testify on your own behalf. However, when you signed the ticket, you were promising to appear in court on the required date (or pay the ticket in advance of that date which is an admission of guilt) so you have violated an additional law.

A felony is a term used in common law systems for very serious crimes, whereas misdemeanors are considered to be less serious offenses.

Crimes commonly considered to be felonies are: aggravated assault and/or battery, arson, burglary, some instances of drug possession, embezzlement, grand theft, treason, espionage, racketeering, robbery, murder, rape, cannabis cultivation and fraud. A third offense for driving under the influence is also a felony in most states.

Examples of misdemeanors may include: petty theft, prostitution, public intoxication, simple assault, disorderly conduct, trespass, vandalism, and other similar crimes.

Misdemeanors are crimes with a maximum punishment of 12 months of incarceration, typically in a local jail but often those people who are convicted of misdemeanors are often punished with probation, community service or part-time imprisonment, served on the weekends. A felony may be punishable with imprisonment for more than one year or death in the case of the most serious felonies, such as murder, treason, and espionage

a felony is a federal crime. a misdemeanor is a local offense. and no not paying a traffic ticket is not a felony it would be a misdemeanor. some examples of a felony would be tampering with mail, counterfeiting, etc. because those deal with government property and federal laws. misd. are state and city violations.
