Ship Cigars from Canada?
ok so i was thinking on going to cuba to buy a little piece of heaven, a.k.a cuban cigars. the thing is if i leave them at a friend's in canada and he later ships it to me, can the federal government press charges to me? also is the federal government allowed to open mailing?
Answers:
I had three BOXES in my suitcase when I came back from Iraq. If they find them in customs or in the mail, they may take them, and they may not. You take the chance.
That said, I have found there are a lot more legal cigars that are a whole lot tastier than cubans. When Castro took over the tobacco farms, many of the growers left with their seeds to other countries. The ones who stayed were government controlled and don't really care about the product.
The displaced growers are now in other countries with cuban seed, and are selling their cigars legally in the US.
Cuban cigars are the "forbidden fruit" and thus are still sought. Truth be told, they aren't really that good.
Why don't you just go to Canada and buy a Cuban cigar there? You can buy Cuban cigars anywhere in the world and bring them back in small amounts, as long as they are for personal consumption.
I brought some Cuban run back with me from various trips abroad from duty free and have walked through customs numerous times with bottles in my hand.
you will get charged they will have your ***
Yes, they can open mail if they believe it involves breaking the law. (IE/ weaponry, illegal substances) It can even be something such as an airsoft gun without the proper regulations for the US, (in the US all airsoft guns need a red tip on the barrell, not so in Canada.) And so, they can open your mail if they believe there are illegal Cubans in the package and they can confiscate them. I dont know about pressing charges, as I am Canadian myself, but I would assume that if they can take them they can charge you.
Customs will take them. They will take them if someone mails them, or if a company ships them.
Why go to cuba? They have cuban cigars in downtown Montreal. But yes, customs will confiscate them if they are detected.
He has to fill a customs declaration on the package. If it read Cuban cigars, they can be seized. If it doesn't say Cuban cigarse, and they are opened for inspection, they can be seized. Yes, they are allowed to open mail, and they do. How do you think they catch bombs, guns, and crap like that?
