Sue husband and wife, just serve husband?

Since California is a community property state, can I sue husband and wife in small claims court but merely serve husband?
is this legally equivalent to having served them both?
wife has gone into hiding but I know where husband works, and can do substituted service there for him.

Answers:
You must serve both. However in some states substituted service on a wife may be effected by service of her summons & complaint upon her husband.

It's a community property state, but you still have to serve them both. Just because they are both responsible for a debt doesn't mean they can both be served by serving one of them.
