Workplace discrimination against older workers?

why do we not have a similar system to Britain where every company must have a balanced mix across age groups. I went through the retraining process at TAFE, passed everything and still could not get employment. After 10 years of this discrimination I gave up. I did not lack experience.

Answers:
It has to do with insurance. Some companies would like to hire more mature workers but they are told by their insurance carriers that if they do, company premiums will go up.

Also, because older workers have more experience and do a better job they want to be paid more. Many companies will not pay for maturity and experience when youth and stupidity are cheaper.

Speaking as an old guy, for most jobs I would hire a younger guy
