Is it illegal to call yourself by a royal title?
My friend Emma met a real life Countess at a big party for charity. Em thought the real Countess was so cool she wants to start calling herself Countess Emma or Lady Emma. She wants Lady Emma (last name) put on her Visa card too.
To call yourself a Countess or another royal title: Is that legal? Or illegal?
P.S. She doesn't want to defraud anybody she just thinks being called your Excellency or Lady Emma sounds too cool. I don't know what I think about it.

I opened a bank account in a different name once for buisness purposes, the bank manager said it was fine as long as you dont use it to deceive or do fraud.
I am not sure but a friend of mine is called Lord, which is his real christian name, and using his visa to book resturants is a scream, especially toffee, up their own rear ends, style of restaurant, cos when they see the card, he always gets a table.
Top man
I knew someone called Major, but he certainly wasn't in the military. He was just a kid.
Why would she want to go by any idiotic title afforded to a bunch of mooches? (that's American slang for someone who doesn't have a job but takes things from others - I'm guessing you're in the UK)
No, she can not have it on her legal documents.
Royal titles are "officially" given by the Royal power, if you mean in UK then in this case by the Queen.
Your friend can call herself whatever she wants as a joke among friends but not on a formal or legal setting or she run the risk of being charged with "misrepresentation" for posing as royalty (even if she don't want to do a fraud for money, it's still illegal tp pose as something she is not); the very same way anyone would be charged if using the title of Doctor without having a legal right to it. In UK royalty is taken very seriously.
It is not illegal as long as you do not decieve or defraud anyone by using it. You would have to get your name changed by Deed Poll to have it on your Credit Card, unless you were a real Lady by birth right, not that she is not a real lady but in royalty terms.
You may change your name legally just by placing notices
in the papers, as long as your purpose is not illegal or to avoid debt or contracts it.s alright
the reason is some parents are real goofballs or sadists
Remember most so called royalty got there by pillaging
plundering, and outright theft with a royal license, then they
inherit the title and try to forget what a bast*rd grandpa was
There weren't any nice nobility in a feudal system.
It's legal provided the 'title' is used as a name and not to deceive people into thinking it is an actual title, so it would be 'Miss' Lady Emma etc. Dropping the 'Miss' would make it fraudulent.

Also, there is a lot of scam going on selling fake titles. So be careful./
