Does your employer have to pay you for jury duty?

I live in Texas and one of my co-workers was not paid for her jury duty. We were just wondering what the law is? I've looked several places online and I can't seem to find an answer. Can she disbute with our employer? She was out the first day and then was picked so had to be there for the trial for several days.

Answer:
I don't think the employer is required to (I also live in TX), but some do anyway. Check your employee handbook - at my last job I was called for jury duty. My managers weren't even aware that our company paid for jury duty time; I don't think they had run across that situation before. I just let them know what the employee handbook said and they took care of it. No one likes to look like they're opposed to civic duty.

No, the court will usually pay you about 14 dollars a day. I live in Texas and just had jury duty the other day.
I don't think so. They just can't prevent you from doing your civic duty.

The government does have to pay you for your time, but trust me, it aint much at all.
In Tn the court system pays you not your employer.
It's up the employer. When I lived in Texas and did jury duty they paid me my regular salary, but had to turn over my Jury duty pay to them. Worked out well and was fair in my opinion.
Your employer should be paying you while you are on jury duty. If you are getting paid for your jury duty, your employer can ask for that payment or can pick up the slack where your jury payments leave you short.
She gets paid by the state $5-15 a day for it.

Your JOB doesn't owe you any money because you didn't work those days.
No, the court will pay you for your jury time. However, you can not be punished by your employer for needing the time off of work (they can't fire you for going to jury duty). But, they don't have to pay you either.
It is at the option of the employer. Most places now do not pay you for days off for jury duty.
I had Jury duty 2 years ago in Saint Charles Parish and I was dismissed because I had no one to watch my then 2 year old i brought to court. the Judge said i served my duty and I was dismissed and got paid 30 dollars. All for 2 hours. Your job doesn't have to pay you but they have to give you the days off without fear of losing your job.
In my state, no but they also can not fire you for being on jury duty. The court will pay you for your time and mileage (if over a certain mileage) but your employer doesn't have to pay you unless you are on salary.
