Is it illegal for a paper to say someones address?

Is it illegal for a paper wether it be in printing or on in online article to print someones address?

Answers:
Illegal is probably the wrong term to use here.

There is no absolute law against publishing a person's address and it is most certainly not a crime to publish a person's address.

Under some very limited circumstance, information may be considered confidential and disclosure or use of that information may support a civil claim for invasion of privacy. However, anybody filing such a claim would be required to prove damages or a malicious intent. Generally speaking, a news paper or television station (or website) would not be found liable for publishing someone's address, it just would waste space (or time) that is better used for more important information.

To the extent that a website that you join keeps your information secret, it is not because it is required but because they think they are more likely to have you as a customer if they voluntarily choose to protect your privacy.

There is not a general law that would stop a paper from printing every address of every person that they wanted to print. If they wanted to print the entire contents of the local registrar of deeds, they could. But, that would make for some pretty boring reading. However, most papers would normally not print your exact address unless the address was important to the article.
An individual`s address can be printed in paper or supplied on line only with a clear consent. Otherwise it is an encroachment on individual`s privacy and so is illegal. Even on yahoo q and a if you don`t allow e mail or IM none will contact you.
It's legal in the U.S.
