Should prostitution be made legal in the UK?
Is it about time the government legalised and made safe, the oldest profession in the world. Should the sex industry be overhauled?
I have never understood why this country doesn't regulate such a hazzardous occupation. It is never going to become extinct so to speak.
What do you think?
Answers:
Yep why not, it's another income(tax) for the Chancellor plus it'd make the lives for the women who are in the "Industry" safer and give them rights as well as freeing up a lot of court time spent dealing with kerb crawlers etc!!
Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
It already is!
Street prostitution is illegal but escorts are perfectly legal.
Just look on www.adultwork.com and see the thousands of escorts plying their trade.
yes and the gov should tax it instead of other things lol
yes, because it happens anyway, behind closed doors...
but I still think you will get your crack heads... so it won't clean the streets entirely
it already is
Definately not! But I can see your point too. Mean less rapes etc (Im just a prude)
yes,it would make things safer.
After going to Amsterdam it made me realise how uptight this country is, it is a completely different culture and for the better, I think it should be legalised and protection given to those doing the job.
i hope so. the uk should show the usa how it is done. there is no reason for prostitution to be as dangerous as it is.
I don't see why it shouldn't be..they make porn films and sell them okay and whats the difference, those people are getting paid very good money to have sex with other people and very good money as well..whats that if it isn't prostitution, just under another name. I think in this enlightened age people can make up their own minds if they want to use the services of a prostitute, and what business is it of anyone else's. Adults should have the freedom to choose and not allow governments to regulate on such private and personal matters. I personally have never used their services, but I see nothing wrong with it for those who need to.
Yes it should, it would remove the girls from the streets, they would be safer than they presently are and then a health regime could be set in place to protect all.
Many are doing this to support drug habits and regular contact with the health service could help them, others are single parents who don't have support and have to get there money from somewhere.
Legalisation makes sense, but don't expect the educated politicians to see that.
Have you ever watched porn? In hardcore porn people actually have sex and you can watch them. The entries are clearly visible and it's full-on sex. The 'actors' or 'models' get paid to do it. We can purchase video material of that type here in the UK 100% legitimately.
How different is that from legalised prostitution? At least, as they do in the porn industry, they can take steps to stop you dying of it!
The Doctor
Prostitution is legal in the UK, it is soliciting for the purpose that is illegal.
In England probably UK in general, prostitution is not illegal for a person over 16, but soliciting for sex in a public place is illegal.
It is illegal for a newsagent to advertise a prostitutes services.
It is illegal for a man to live off the earning of a female prostitute.
It is still an offence to keep a brothel, a place where 2 or more prostitutes receive clients.
A man who pesters women for prostitution in a public place is breaking the law, but only by doing something likely to cause a breach of the peace.
They tend to publish the name of those found guilty, as a deterrent to others.
However has it does go on via escort agencies and the like, I am in favour of making it safer for everyone concerned.
I am not in favour of soliciting in a public place where non prostitutes could be mistaken for prostitutes by clients, or local people could be caused distress.
Yes and drugs
Oh yes, I agree 100% .
So why isnt it?
What would be the benifit of this?
Legalised buildings with full medical care for all, in fact enforced medical care!
Pimps would disappear from the face of the earth!
Income tax would be paid.
Reduction in the so called unemployed figures.
More Police protection for these folk.
Down side ?? A so called 'public outcry' from many religious groups, so what ??
Many of your answers have mentioned Amsterdam, the majority of Goverment around that area were made up of Christian democrats , what happened to these Christian folk?
They staged a few 'public outcries' they are now all voted out of office!! Great news.
I'm not sure about the effect on 'crack heads' , but not all crack heads are prostitutes, and not all prostitutes are crack heads. But I imagine there would be an overall reduction in numbers.
I completely agree, prostitution has always been around and probably always will be! It's about time it was legalised! prostitutes regardless of gender should be free to work in a safe and secure environment and it's about time the government provided these areas!
Yes and it should be made safe for the prostitutes. They help keep perverts from attacking innocent people, so in my book they do a service to society.
As long as it is run properly and that health checks are made say every 28 days etc, wow its the oldest proffesion in the world and there will always be a demand, also think of the money in tax and national insurance the government will make, it seems to work in Germany and Holland so why not here, unless its down to N.I.M.B.Y's?
