How do good employees with little or no cash get the legal help they deserve when managers retaliate & fire?
Sept 13th, 2005: A cashier and 5 year employee of the Goleta Costco in CA had been abused and singled out by Julie Ledbedder(a manager of the front end). This manager had ordered cashiers to not count in their registers but to trust her prior counting. These cash drawers of course were short $100 at the end of the day and it was this manager who would write up the employees but only after 5-7 days have past. It was this one cashier who had caught her taking money from these innocent employees and leaving the blame on them tainting their good name. When approached by Julie to open up his register without counting in first the cashier refused. She made a scene in plain view and threatend the cashier. The cashier told her that upon his lunch he will report her for harassment and theft. He was called into the office before his break and was fired before he had a chance to address this. The EEOC offered a list of lawyers but all of them wanted cash first. His family has been suffering since.
Answers:
go through legal aid or the ACLU
if you have proof... solid tangible proof (that is the tough part) then you could probably get a pro bono (free lawyer) because they will know it is slam dunk.
