Answers:
david blagdon has now been released, but it is very misleading to suggest that his discretionary life sentence was for 'setting fire to some curtains'.
mr. blagdon was a serial arsonist with several previous convictions for setting potentially dangerous fires. the life sentence was intended to keep him in prison until he no longer posed a danger to the public. his sentence continued for so long because the prison authorities considered that if released he was likely to immediately return to setting fires.
.
arson is not a trivial offence. the person who set the penhallow hotel fire may not have intended to kill anybody - but they did.

isn't it interesting how many of these unbelievable stories turn out not to be exactly true once you investigate them a little?
he pulled himself together.

He is still there. The North Koreans want us to free him but we don't work that way here. Curtains cost money you know.
