Is all this reporting really necessary?
Why do some people choose to report people? I've never reported anyone on the simple grounds that if I didn't want to answer their question I wouldn't answer it. Nobody is forced to read anything.
I love parties with poodles and rice crispy treats...you didn't have to read that if you didn't want to.

Yes.
You don't have to answer anything you don't want to, but sometimes you read something by mistake and it is offensive, threatening or otherwise harmful. Besides, would you like to maintain the usefulness of YA or let it become a big free-for-all?
There are lots of angry people in the world who do not know how to handle the fact that someone disagress with their view. Reporting abuse is a use of force (albeit not very violent), but it is force nontheless. It provides a way of striking back at those when we don't trust our ability to either accept a difference of opinion or our ability to convince others we are right.

I've reported people for posting obvious spam. I reported one just a couple of days ago who posted the exact same advertisement in respone to at least two different people's answers. We get enough spam in email. We don't need it here too.
some people report people because the question seams strange, like if someone on here said "Im 13 and pregnant what do I do?" I would probally report them in the hopes that the makers of Answers! would read the question and do something like try to make contact with the law inforcement in that persons community, I would do the same thing if someone came on here asking what to do about being raped. ya know, some people just report to help others stay safe
