My ex hasn't been to see our daughter in three years. Are there abanondment laws? If so, how long are they?

I live in North Carolina and I want to inquire about the laws or where I can go to find out? He does not pay child support and last month he was incarcerated. Whats the best way to get full rights so I can protect my child from a bad situation?

Answers:
go to your local court house and fill out custody papers, have them sent to him in jail...i doubt a judge will allow him any custody rights after hearing the situation.you should ask for full legal as well as sole custody when you go...good luck to you

I hate to sound like I am minimizing your situation, but.. get a lawyer! Regardless of his situation, he is obligated to support his child.
You cannot force him to see the child but he can be forced to pay child support.
i suggest you give him a warning. if he still refuse to pay some compensation for you and your daughter's live, then, you can turn to some organizations, such as women's right organization and children's right organization. or, you can just turn to the court. i believe you can win the suit, definitely!
