What is the most effective way receive a bump in compensation?
I've been working at my job for almost two years as an assistant. A year into the job, they made me report to another person. I got a measly raise, but have been working my balls off since then like a dog. How do i approach an HR dept that doesn't seem to have any empathy towards its workers' needs in general?

Why not ask your boss to do it, assuming your boss agrees you deserve a raise?
