Texas IS NOT a right to hire state. i sued my company in Dallas for wrongfull termination for being hurt and then fired. the the time it came to court the company closed.
asking for a demotion will not be looked on fondly but they probably wouldn't fire you right off the bat, although they could say you were being fired for being incompetent, which is their right.
Texas is what's called a "right to hire" state which, oddly, means that you can be fired for ANYTHING that's not a civil rights violation. Your boss can fire you if s/he doesn't like your use of slang.
No you most likely will not be fired. You will most likely have to take a cut in pay and any perks that you previously enjoyed. I've heard of many who take the demotion because the position was more than they could handle. Like I say it will all be on how you handle it.
