Will I have to pay court costs if I get a prayer for judgement?
I got a speeding ticket from a state trooper and he conveniently charged me with going 16 mph over the speed limit. I personally don't believe I was going that fast but whatever. I have a clean driving record. I've only had one other speeding ticket from 5 years ago. And I don't have a criminal record at all.
I'm going to ask for a Prayer for Judgement when I go to court in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if I will have to pay court costs if I get a prayer for judgement?
Answers:
I think you pay court costs and fines but get no license points. I don't know for sure though. Are you from NC? (I think that is the only state that has PFJ) Hit me up sometime hottie.
I hope so, when I got caught speeding I had to pay my ticket.
Yes, a prayer for judgement just stops the ticket from going on your insurance...you still have to pay the fine..be careful...if you get another ticket within a few years, both will go on your insurance.
The laws vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and a "prayer for judgement" isn't likely to happen, the state WANTS your money and they will fine you and get money from you. Sorry to tell you this, but its the facts.
Here's what I found in my research:
A couple of things on a "Prayer for Judgement" plea - a household can only do one every three years. So if there's someone else in your home who's gotten one in the last three years, it's not an option for you.
Second, yes, you have to pay court costs and fees. But as I understand it, how it shows up on your driving record is vastly improved.
You might want to check with an attorney in the area (is there a law school around - they might offer cheap legal advice).
