The phrase "if you have nothing to hide" never seems to apply to public servants - Why is that ?

Answers:
Because public servants appear to have forgotten that they are servants of the public, and they have become greedy, selfish, power hungry, elitist, hypocrites instead! *sm*

Lady Z took the words right out of my mouth...She hit it "Dead on the Head" Also they believe all people are created equal they are just a "little more equal than us!"
I might be persuaded by an argument that they are defending our Constitutional guarantees, if any of them acted as if they'd ever read it.
If by public servants, you mean police, then it is on a case by case basis...

If by public servants you mean politicians, then I blame the media for not knowing how government is supposed to work and what a valuable role they have.

News Corporations like Fox News which are family to the Bushies use their little corner of the media for propaganda instead of truly informing the public about what matters.
In short, they HELP the politicians lie... instead of asking the hard questions, they put spin on everything.

Here in the USA - it was always assumed that the Government was completely transparent, that there was nothing "going on behind closed doors". But the last few Presidents have gradually challenged that notion more and more every term.
Now, we actually have journalists that are so uneducated and uncaring that they actually debate whether congress (our truely elected public servants) have any right to ask questions of the President... so sad...

The media seems to think that every story should have two sides, like a debate (because that sells advertising).

But sometimes the story is simply that someone has done something wrong and needs to be punished accordingly.
