To answer your question, you can burn a CD of music you own for your own personal use. What you cannot do is make copies of CD's you own, or make multiple CD's to give or sell.
I dont think so. Coz that way every 2nd citizen of US becomes a criminal !
making a copy of anything you don't have copyright to is illegal.

Copying (burning) copyrighted material is illegal. Burning mixed Cds from itunes or from your own music is ok-its for you. Copying movies from net too-its illegal.

as for the CD's yes, its illegal, but for your sake i would tell you that you could "easily get put in jail and the can trace it when you burn, but only if you burn rap music" so now maybe you wont listen to rap and whiten up a little
