I don’t understand how the problem started. Before Mau attempted to remove all forms of spiritualism from China, most Chinese were Buddhist. Buddhism does not require a couple to procreate, nor does it require a family to preserve its name. Thus there was no reason to have so many children, to start with. So how China got to be so populace is a mystery to me.
China is now faced with a shortage of women for two reasons. One is the fact that the slaughter had taken place for generations. Second, is the influx of Western visitors has lead to a lot of Chinese women getting married to Westerners and leaving the country. I spent a month in China, and was propositioned by several young ladies.

While there might not have been a real crisis if the one child policy was not introduced, hundreds of millions more people would be in China today. Depends on whether you think that's a problem or not.
Do you mean only child is permitted in a family? And since the Chinese like many other cultures believe in the procreation of the species, but more fine tuned to their own lineage, want the survival of their name. The chances of everyone being able to have a male first born is at maximum 50/50. Unfortunately, China has the old culture (like the Middle East, Asia etc) that also believes that a female alone does nothing for her family and is worth nothing except as an extension of a man. This created the problem of families having female babies and drowning them until they get a male. If this policy was not in place, then the country would be more overcrowded than it is already and with other problems. Either way, when you have a country as large as China with as many people, there will always be a problem. What do you think?
It already is a problem. They Slaughter millions of innocent babies each year those savages as well as the united states. Over all, there have been over 400 million babies murdered by it thanks to that filthy pig margaret sanger who's burning in hell right now.
