Can a dealership report a car stolen while im still driving?
the dealership called me this morning and told me if i dont pay them soon, they are going to report the car stolen, can they do that? Report it stolen?
Answers:
If you didn't pay for it, guess what...it IS stolen.
You want to give a little more detail on this one? What's the deal?
If you are test driving a car, then the tag that is on the car is only good for a certain amount of time. Some dealerships might lend it out for a few hours, but it's rare for one to lend it for a whole day. But yes they can report it stolen if you don't take it back in the alloted time.
you bought this car from them? if you have a loan, they can repossess the car, but they can't report it stolen. if you have a contract though, they definately can repo it. maybe I'm not understanding the question. if you took it for a test drive and never came back, then yes, you did steal the car.
they could
Umm yeah I think they can... But as long as you have the keys you can defend it Hey they gave me the keys what was I supposed to do? Just play dumb or something but I think it is stupid to not return it
Is the car registered in your name? If so they can not say you stole it. If you havent paid for it they can repo it. But as far as saying its stolen, thats different. That would be filing a false report on their half.
Or were you just test driving it and never brought it back?
It's not really stolen, they let you drive it (was it stolen right from the beginning?) you had an agreement to pay them. They could simply repossess it back.
Sounds like a bozo at the car dealership is trying to intimidate you. Try this, call the police and file a complaint against the car dealership for making terroristic threats and harrassing you.
did you take it for a test drive and not return it? why are they calling you? once a car is purchased the bank holds the title and you are paying them. if you did purchase the car and you haven't paid, then they can re-posse your car but that is a legal process. if you took it for a test drive and you never returned it then yes they can, but if you bought the car and you behind in payments then no. they must repo it.
Why is the dealership calling you? I assume that if you are making payments, you shouldn't be dealing with the dealer, you are now dealing with whoever your loan is with. They won't report it stolen, they will repossess it. Meaning, you won't be pulled over by the police but you could wake up tomorrow and the car will be gone. Call and talk with whoever your loan is with. They will usually work with you unless you are more or around 90 days overdue.
Depends on how you got it, but probably not. More likely they'll sue you and get the money from your liquidated assets.
No if you have signed anything..but since you havent brought it back to them and havent paid, you can be sited for non compliance to a contract..it will play havoc on your credit record..take the car back to them and save yourself alot of hassles..If I were you I would call the police and give them a heads up and ask what your local laws are concerning this..this way if they do they know the story ahead of time protecting you...
