If the health of society follows the health of each individual within it then what must we do to care for all?
Answers:
Society, in the analogy you draw, is much like an organism. What healthy organisms do with unhealthy (infected, cancerous, etc) cells is simple. They destroy them. In all organism Apoptosis, programed cell death, is also vital to maintaining the health of the organism. In humans, for instance, Cytotoxic T cells 'kill' (actually, initiate programmed cell death) infected or cancerous cells so that the body as a whole remains healthy.
The anologous processes in a society would be death by 'old age' and physician assisted suicide/capital punishment.
