Am I considered a US citizen?

My dad became an US citizen when I was 10 years old. Does this mean I am an US citizen too? The thing is, I was living in the Philippines when he was naturalized. I came here in the US at the age 18 and a half. Do I have to be 18 and below to carry on my dad's citizenship? Thanks.

Answers:
I went through a similar experience. I became a citizen under my mother because she obtained her citizenship before my 18th birthday. My brother and I benefited but my sister and my other brother were out of luck. I didn't apply for citizenship, I just applied for my passport. I provided documentation to show that I was legally able to get a US passport. But you are in this gray area.

It seems that because of the age that you entered the United States, you may not be a viable candidate for citizenship through parent. However, If I were you I would find an immigration attorney and ask. You may even be able to find free immigration counseling services. There are always fliers up in NYC. As a matter of fact since they will be upping the fee to $600+ people are out there helping others to file before the fee goes up.

You can do a google search on the CUNY Citizenship and Immigration Project. They offer advice for free.

Good luck

I'm 50% Filipino! Felt like sharing.

+ No. I think you'll need to apply for your own citizenship, because you were not born here.
You need naturalization papers.
AND HURRY! Citizenship fees are soaring.
Do you have naturalization papers? If not, then you are not a US Citizen.
Not automatically. You have to apply for it.
no you're not a citizen but become one! America is a great place to live!
no doesn't matter if your dad is citizen. You can only be citizen if you were born here or naturalizied.
You are not a citizen
You have to be born here or if your dad had been a citizen of the US the day you were born for you to to be a citizen . You need to apply for citizenship in the US.
Unless your father registered you with the U.S. Foreign Service (abroad) and listed you on his application when he naturalized, you are not a U.S. citizen.

What does your dad say? Your mom?

I think there is more to this story than you are sharing with us.
Where were you born?
If you were born in the United States you are a US citizen.
regarless of your fathers citizenship. You also maybe a US citizen, if you were born on a US Military base in the Phillipines. not completely sure.
You are not a US citizen. To be born a citizen you must be born on US soil, or be born to citizens. Your father's status now does not affect you. It is a long and difficult process to gain your citizenship, unless you join the military.
