Would you be as SHOCKED as I was when I overheard a particular conversation today?
I work for a rather large advertising firm in the Chicago area. I usually get a ride into the city with my WHITE HUSBAND in his LAND ROVER. He's so cute, he has dimples that make his his cheeks look like greek god statues with his WHITE SKIN.
Anyway, he had to leave early one day, and I decided to hitch a ride with two WHITE WOMEN from the accounts receivable dept. at our firm. Everything was fine on the way to work. We stopped at STARBUCKS, ordered the usual latte and mochas. Well, the blond WHITE WOMAN in the passenger seat looked out the window and said, "You see that BLACK MAN on the corner in a business suit?" The other WHITE WOMAN and I said, "Yes?". She continued, after taking a sip of her macchiato, "He's got a great body for an animal commericial JOHN is working on for a major tennis shoe company." I asked, "Animal?" She said, "Yes, he has the gorilla aspects that most NFL PLAYERS have." I almost choked on my coffee. Should I report her to the government?
Answers:
The government cannot legally impose any restriction or levy any sort of punishment on a person’s right to free expression, no matter how offensive or racially charged that expression happens to be. Her derisive comments, towards that pedestrian, are protected under our free speech laws. Hence, you can seek no recourse in legal action against that individual because it was not in the context of employment or education, where such comments could be construed to encourage discrimination.
It is time that we, as a free society, stop endeavoring to get the government involved in every one of our conflicts. We need to face virulently bigoted ideas with dissident, not litigation. It is the price we pay for living in a free society. If we don’t preserve the right for others to say and think as they would like, no matter how offensive, we will soon lose our own right to do the same.

She's just a run of the mill racist. The only punishment she needs is living her close minded life with toxic thoughts and hatred consuming her like cancer. She doesn't need any more punishment than being her.
When she's laying in her deathbed, she'll think of these comments she'd made and it will hit her like a ton of bricks. It will hit her that she wasted her life away and that she fed poison to her own soul. In her final moments she will feel immense regret for being so small... choosing to be so small when she could have been happy. One life, one chance. What a fool to waste it by slowly posioning herself. She will feel this cancer someday and the regret will be her early hell.
You could report her for being an ignorant moron, but you'd probably have to report yourself too.
It may have been insensitive, but type casting is not discrimination.

I am sorry but I think that the goverment has better things to do right now than to hear about racist comments. Why don't you try sitting down with your coworker and telling her that it really affended you. You'll feel alot better and maybe she'll appreciate that fact that you told her how you felt.

The fact that you pretend you have a white husband that you put on a pedestal for his physical attributes betrays your false story. You wouldn't talk about your husband in that way if the other people's coversation would bother you. It doesn't work like that. I've always been intrigued by the people we occasionally see with strong resemblances to animals. It seems to be more prevalent in small groups of "primitives". It is less noticeable among the "civilized". The primitives have a smaller gene pool due to less intermarriages with outsiders. The civilized are more mongrelized due to centuries of tribal mixing. It also makes you wonder about reincarnation.

Unfortunately, I do not think she said anything illegal. First of all, if she had said that all black men or men of colour have gorilla aspects...then it may have been considered outright racist. However, she said " most NFL Players"...there are alot of caucasian NFL players.
You can not change people's mind when it comes to racist thoughts. This is developed at a young age. And, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It is called Freedom of Speach... What is illegal is acting on those thoughts of hate...
I am a caucasian married to a black man and to be honest...I do not even see him as being black. Most times i do not even think about it...Not everyone can be as open minded.. it does not anger me when people are racist...it simply makes me feel sorry for them because they are missing out on the experiences of other cultures..
Forget the guy in the suit. Sounds las if he's got a life. Contact Michael Vick instead. He allegedly has experience with animals. And I think he's in the market for an athletic shoe endorsement deal. And you did mention NFL. And maybe your husband should get a tan. Well, at least that's kind of what's cool here in California. Every time you type "WHITE", I picture super-pale, ghost-white. I mean, it's in caps. Is that considered attractive in Chi-town?
