I need to carry pepper spray, but I don't think it's legal because I'm not 18 yet. What can I do?
I volunteer at the hospital and I'm usually there until 8:30 at night. This wasn't a big problem in the summer, but now that fall's approaching, it's getting darker faster and I'm getting kind of worried. I've heard of horrible things happening to young girls (I'm 16).
Anyway, one of my friends who works at a neighboring hospital told me that a volunteer there was raped by a security guard so this entire situation is making me feel VERY nervous.
Someone suggested to me that I carry pepper spary in my purse or pocket and I thought that would be a good idea, but I'm not over hte age of 18, which is when you can legally carry pepper spray.
Is there anything else I can do to protect myself? Sure, I'm being paranoid, but I think- better safe than sorry.
Answers:
Just carry it, its for your safety and defense. Its not like your just going to spray random people...
ask a cop
There's no special license to carry pepper spray. If you feel you need it, carry it. I'd recommend pepper foam. It's more accurate and does more damage.
If you really feel unsafe, I think you should carry it if you can get ahold of it. You shouldn't have to feel that nervous.
Carry it anyways. I dont think its illegal or even if it is no cop in his right mind would think anything of a young lady carrying it.
But be careful with it and make certain you know how to use it. I tinkered around with one before - didnt know what i was doing and blasted myself right in the face. OUCH...
You dont even want to know the pain.
Even if you're under 18, it's not illegal if you ONLY USE IT FOR SELF DEFENSE. If you carry it out, go up to a cop, and fakely say, "RAWR", you probably will get arrested. If you attack some one for self defense, it's legal.
Put some Tabassco sauce in a small spray bottle. It works just as well as pepper spray.
Ask if some of their personnel can escort you to your car.
If that options not available to you, see if you can find a group of people to walk out with to make sure everyone gets to their car safely.
You can't purchase it at 16, but depending on your state's laws, it may not be illegal for you to possess it. Check with your local police/sheriff. Also, check local martial arts schools, many offer workshops for self-defense for women.
You can mentally prepare yourself to fight like a dog insted of being scared and that can really help if you are attaked unfortunatly I've learened this the hard way. Personally I wouldn't carry anything, statistics state that 9 out of 10 people who are attacked and try to defend themselves with some kind weapon end up getting it used on themselves. i would also consider having someone walk you out or have someone pick you up and meet you inside so you walk out together
plan a:take a heavy flashlight with you everywhere u go!! if somebody messes with you,hit them upside the head with it . only if thyre tring 2 hurt you!! or go to plan b:kick them in the ballsack! lol j/k! or plan c: kick them in the knee and theyll drop like a stone! best of luck 2 u ! remember only hurt them if you have to then take off running!!!
Many hospitals have escorts who will walk you to your car...
does yours? If not, you might suggest it- it would save the hospital money in lawsuits.
