What would happen if every single employee in the US called in sick for one day?
what do you think would happen if every single employee in the US called in sick for one day, and not one soul showed up to work or did anything at home (if they telecommute)?

It depends on if it was planned or not. If everyone knew about it, it would be pretty chaotic with no police, fire department, or hospital staff. But if everyone stayed home, then I don't think anything would be much different in one day. You'd just get up the next day, and carry on like normal.

There would be a drastic turn in the stock market and the economy...look at the costs incurred just by portions of New York being shut down on 911.

I guess it kind of happens at Christmas, but even then, some people have to work.

Then life as we know it would cease! It takes manpower to turn on the electrical plants, which would effect everything from mass transportation on down!
then about a month or two later for one day life will totaly suck.
Ha that would be kinda cool. Though lets see... I don't think anything would happen, no one would lose money (as the people who need to buy stuff would just buy it the next day). Though a lot of people would probably die (as hospitals would be shut down) provided they had a heart attack, stroke or some other natural, non violent end because even gangsters would take the day off. Lot of kids would be born at home too. Police wouldn't be needed because criminals would be at home just relaxing.
At least the company will not become bankrupt.

A lot of people would die...doctors, fire fighters, police officers, emergency dispatchers, prison guards, emergency responders -- they are all employees.
There would be economic disruption, and most of that would correct itself in the long term.
That is an interesting question that I would like to try out. Preferrably a Monday...or a Tuesday after a long weekend...lol!
There would be widespread panic, looting and chaos, because people really have no idea what it means until they experience it. The people would all want to shop, need gas, need groceries, need medicine, need to see a doctor, etc. Once they got there, everything would be closed. They would consider it an "emergency" and just start busting into places to get what they wanted/needed. Did you see the looting footage of New Orleans post Katrina? Imagine the whole country doing that at the same time.
What? No TV or internet for a day, man, I'd have to read a book or something, that is, if the lights were still on.
Probabaly thousands would die. No doctors, or police forces. No security at any of the closed stores. No 911 operaters and no abulances. No gas, no power, no food and no watter. No one would miss our politacl leaders though, they get nothing done wether they show up or not. Probabaly the biggest issue would be emergency sevices.
The amount of greenhouse gasses saved by one day of everyone doing nothing would be staggering. Maybe its what we need.
well, we would all be stuck at home with no entertainment or electricity, because no one would be at work to provide it, so we'd have to sit around and play board games or something. might be a good opportunity to bond with friends and family!!
