My parents made a Will with HSBC.It was `FREE`-but they charged £15000+ to do Probate!!Their estate was £284K!

Banks are being sued over bank charges-Do I have a claim for RIDICULOUS Probate charges. My parents thought the `Free` Wills they offered was a good idea- BUT they said nothing about MASSIVE probate costs. They say because they agreed for the Bank to hold their Wills it was an instruction to do the Probate!! They have taken over £15000 from the monies collected in(Total circa£284K)

Answers:
That is the thing about "free" wills. I would go to the CAB though. Those costs seem hugely excessive.

That is HIGH...go to the C.A.B
Always read the small print.
There didn't just draw up the will. They must have been appointed as executors as well, else they couldn't have done that.
Go and see a solicitor, that is extortionate...
My suggestion is to take legal advice over this, they were misled, and i would think that you have a good enough case to get the money back.
Ask for a copy of the policy on charges for their probate service. Then ask a Solicitor if the charge was fair. As I understand it, Solicitors usually charge a percentage of the value of the estate. 5% does seem a little high to me though.

Just found this on their site. Says Probate service from £2,000 plus VAT
I'm not being rude but i cannot understand why you and thousand others choose these people to administer when your own solicitor would do it for a tenth or more less and yes try to get a refund get your advice on here i was just reading it a few days ago
Nothing is free!
Totally disgusting! I bet that wasnt read out to them in the office.
You should find a no win no fee solicitor.

Bet they settle out of court!!!
