Am I in trouble with the law from a package delivery?

I have asked this question before but probably was not detailed enough.

If I ordered a weight loss substance off the Internet, realized after placing the order (but before the stuff arrived) that it is an illegal substance, cancelled the order, then refused to sign for the package or accept it when it arrived, am I in trouble with the law? I have gotten 3 notices on my mailbox from the local Post Office that if I do not go to them and pick it up, it will be sent back and that would be great! I do not want it. But I am so worried that it arrived as a "controlled delivery", which is something I'd not even heard of before all this began. The postman was acting very strange (I don't think I imagined that) when he attempted the delivery, and walked away from me whispering in a black receiver clipped to his collar. How weird!

Anyway, I am paranoid (as you can see) and a wreck over this whole thing. Does anyone know anything about this?

Answers:
You should be fine. If I were you, contact your post master and explain why you are refusing the package, that you have learned it contains a controlled substance. They can do an investigation and can work with the FBI.

Best of luck

You were right not to sign or accept it. Let them send it back.
Don't be paranoid. The postman probably doesn't get many refusals - I doubt he was acting strangely. You didn't accept the package - you canceled the order, no worries.
You are very smart to not accept the package. As long as you do not accept it, you can not get into trouble!
Yes youll be fine . Let the post office keep sending you notices and shortly youll see they send it back without invovling you atall.
Iam surprised it got past customs if international..must be domestic.
I did something simillar once with no problems.

Oh , just on a side note..diet pills dont work long term. Save yourself alot of money and dont buy them. Only changing eating habits and mild exercise with help long term...good luck :)
Do not accept the package! You're not paranoid if someone is actually trying to get you. I've never heard of a controlled delivery that did not include plans for an arrest.

I agree with nick except for the last paragraph. Always trust your instincts. That's why you have them.
I heard of a case awhile back that a person accepted it (Not knowing), and the feds busted down his door that night with a search warrant.

Being that you sent it back you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you are worried get the order canceled notice from the seller, and get proof that you sent it back.

Your alert/anxiety level was heightened. I'm sure the mail carrier wasn't acting strange.
