Are there any laws about how loud you can have your music in the car?
I like my music really loud but I'd rather not get a ticket for something like that.
Answers:
yes, many cities do, and we should all be outraged, and I'll tell you why, because a previous law already existed to enforce excess volume, it was called "disturbing the peace", instead law makers have made new laws with actual decibels ratings often so low that even a joy full laugh with the windows open would send you over the limit, and that is no lie. there have been claims the law is used typically to target a stereo typed group of people, the thugs, the gangstas, and the drug dealers. Do i think they need to crack down on these people well of course, but in the processes they created a law that takes away our rights. Law makers all to often create laws for a alternative purpose, then layers get involved and enforce the literal meaning, setting precedence for future cases. Laws like these could later be used to stop protesting because protesting volume levels are to high or to shut down events that create a noise that disturbs a small percentage of the public. Before people support laws to banquish something they dispise they should relise they are supporting a method that may banquish what they love. we need to set aside our desires and be aware of whats right and wrong, and this law where present is wrong.
just make sure its GOOD music...
Some cities have ordinances about that but I'd perfer that those of you who do play their music loud enough for other people to hear it from their cars simply show some basic consideration and turn it down. Please. Not everyone likes your kind of music just like not everyone likes mine.
Some places may have noise ordinances.
In most states, yes. You need to be able to hear sirens, horns, and car accidents that might happen around you while driving, otherwise you might create or compound an accident because you weren't paying enough attention to your surroundings.
In urban areas where there is an excessive amount of noise (and complaints from citizens) from cars and drivers that are 'cruising' there have been sound level (db) laws passed to provide tools for law enforcement offices to stop and detain a loud vehicle.
I think Las Vegas has such a law - If your sound level can be heard so many feet from a vehicle...not sure if there is an actual db level attached to the law, but if the sound can be heard 'X' feet away then you can be cited.
Some jurisdictions do have noise ordinances that apply to music in cars. It is EXTREMELY obnoxious to have to deal with that while driving. Really loud music that invades the space of people for hundreds of feet SHOULD be against the law everywhere. I mean, how selfish can you get? Not to mention, you will be tone deaf in two years.
Oh, and by the way, do you hear sirens when you have that stuff blasting in the car?
I know you cant.
Thankfully, most jurisdictions do have such ordainances. Enforcement is another thing alltogether. People seldom receive citations, except if a cop happens to be on the spot or someone complains.
yes
city ordinances that are made by each respective city
contact you local police department for info
Yes, and when people get a ticket for this they get the same amount of sympathy from be as somebody who was ticketed for parking in a handicapped slot.
As far as I am concerned people who drive with their music blasting are rude, inconsiderate and immature.
