Knee Injury in a Grocery Store?

I was in a local Grocery Store, someone in produce had left a vacuum, with the cord scattered around, unattended. I got tangled up in the cord and almost fell, but managed to keep my balance. Even though I did not fall I hurt my right knee, it's bad enough where I can't hardly walk.
I had surgery on my right knee 5 months ago, and now it is injured again.
Well, I told the manager about what had happened, and he apologized, and said that whoever had been vacuuming had probably been called away. The manager didn't take my name, phone number, or anything.
I called the corporate office and complained to them, and they said they would get back with me later this week. They are just blowing me off.
What steps should I take to get help with this situation?

It was your leg that was operated on, and not your eyes, correct? Why are you blaming somebody else because you got yourself tangled up in a pile of electrical cord?

Duh, meet with an attorney. And STOP talking to the company yourself.
get a lawyer
Comparative Negligence. Look it up and then come back and tell us what you found.

You will not like it.

EDITED TO ADD:

It matters not if anyone thinks you were clumsy or not watching. There are two problems here:

1. you need to show a lack of 'ordinary care' on the part of the store employee, and;
2. you will need to show that through no fault of your own the incident occurred.

First, your previous knee injury is irrelevant.
Second, unless you can show that the store employee was negligent, you will at most recover a minimal amount since you can show no injury not related to your previous injury.

And last, you share in the liability for the accident, regardless of where 'around the corner' the cord was located. The court knows you have been in a grocery store before. It knows there are inherent risks in such a dwelling, as you know there are. Anything from other customers leaving food and spillage on the floor to items such as the cord.

You assumed that risk by entering the store. You cannot now, before the court, claim that you are liability free because of your own actions.

At BEST you may get a minimal amount for the accident but don't expect a large settlement and don't expect anything if you suffered no provable damages (i.e., doctor visit or expenses.).
Engage an attorney and sue.
call an ambulance chaser like...1800 ax gary
they live for things like that
Get a lawyer. No one is going to listen to your otherwise. How would they know that you just had knee surgery?
You were in a store, did you not see the vaccumn cleaner? it was certainly large enough. If you injured yourself, I'm sorry it happened but it was an avoidable accident and you could have prevented it. why does it only become someone elses problem when it happens outside your home??
If you were driving down the road and turned a corner and hit a car, (who's at fault ?)
Time to get a lawyer- they are responsible for covering your injury costs, regardless if you had knee problems before.

My husband's a doctor, I've seen this before. Make sure you get a good lawyer- not a "TV" ney hungry one. Good luck.

Also, write down a timeline of what, how and when things happened. (original injury, phone calls, etc)
OK, you can sue the hell out of them which is the American way, or you can take responsibility for your clumsiness, which USED to be the American way. Your choice.
