Harassment?
My ex emails me and calls the house degraging me and my kids and makes comments about the people I have relationships with. I live in the state of Ohio what can I do about this
Answers:
Get a restraining order to start.
If that doesn't work, be sure and document calls, emails (hope you have kept the old ones in paper form) and any other way they contact you and call the police to your home to make a stalking report. Go to the department after 72 hours (time to process it where I worked) and purchase a copy of the report for your files.
Talk with a detective and show them the documentation you have (at least a couple of months worth of notes after you get the restraining order), along with the stalking report and let them talk with the ex and let them know this is a criminal offense and they can do time in jail if they don't stop immediately.
BTW, if they call:
1) First call, tell them not to call the house anymore, then gently hang up the phone. Never slam down a phone ~ that gives them great pleasure to know they got to you.
2) Any call after this should be documented along with the first call. If you answer, gently hang up the phone ~ do NOT say anything or it could be taken that you are encouraging them to call you. If you have caller ID, get a record at the end of the month from the phone company on all calls that have come in. You may have to pay for this so talk with the detective and see if they can get it for their investigation instead.
If you see them in public, completely ignore them even if they do or say things to try and get your attention. Eventually you can hope the fire will burn out when there isn't "two of you" adding fuel to the fire. Also document any comments they make and any witnesses you may have with you. If you see them following you, document that on your list, too, but do not say anything ~ personally I would drive straight to the police station with them behind you..
Keep all original copies of your paperwork and give copies to anyone else in law enforcement who may need them.
Good luck ~ how sad people can't just grow up.
You can apply for a peace bond.
If he has ever threatened you you can apply for a protection/prevention order.
I have provided a link to the Ohio Domestic Violence site complete with forms that you can do yourself. The site goes through all you need to do and has a contact number if you need to talk to someone.
